Training tool
Plate calculator
Turn a target weight into plates per side. Useful when the program gives the number and you want the bar loaded without doing gym-floor arithmetic.
Best for
For barbell lifters who want fast plate math before a work set, warm-up, or percentage-based session.
Load the bar
Subtract the bar, split the plates, and show the gap.
Default inventory
25, 20, 15, 10, 5, 2.5, 1.25 kg plates per side.
Per side
Enter the target total.
The output will show plates per side and any unloaded remainder.
Bar first
How the plate math works
The calculator subtracts the bar weight from the target total, splits the remaining load per side, then uses the largest available plates first.
If the exact target cannot be loaded with the selected plates, it shows the remaining difference instead of pretending the load is exact.
The default inventory covers common kilogram and pound plates. Change the unit and bar weight to match the gym in front of you.
Use it well
- Confirm the bar weight before loading.
- Use the remainder warning when your gym does not have the right small plates.
- Round conservatively when the exact target is not loadable.
- Pair this with the warm-up calculator for faster ramp-up sets.
Keep it honest
Caveats
- This is plate arithmetic, not program advice.
- Gyms vary; check the actual bar and plates before lifting.
- Collars, specialty bars, and machine stacks can change the real loaded weight.
